Dylan Horton, a defensive end with the Texans, has been through a difficult medical struggle in recent months.
As a rookie last season, Horton received a Stage 4 Hodgkin’s lymphoma diagnosis. He was put on the non-football illness list while receiving treatment. Horton is currently in remission. Recently, he rang the hospital bell to mark the completion of his last treatment, marking a major medical milestone.
During a team meeting on Tuesday, the Texans acknowledged Horton, eliciting cheers from his teammates as they stood behind the former TCU fourth-round draft pick.
Horton remarked, “What a special moment for Dylan.” “Watching him ring the bell makes me cry because, despite having a bright future ahead of him, he is a simple football player who can change course at any time.” That applies to everyone. Life can change drastically in a second, but how you react to it matters, and Dylan has done a fantastic job responding.
“I was happy to have him in our team meeting this morning and highlight him,” Ryans said. “All the guys were clapping for him, and you see the support that he has, all of them. All of the guys that were around him, praying for him, pulling for him, encouraging him along the way.
“That is what life is all about. We get to do football for a living but when real life hits you as something as serious as that and to see a young man overcome it at such a young age, I couldn’t be more proud of him and what he has accomplished. To see him ring that bell was the exciting moment for everyone.”
