Houston Man Charged with Capital Murder After Deadly Shooting on Unity Drive

Houston police have charged Henry Steven Aguilar, 23, with capital murder in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred Monday night on Unity Drive in northeast Houston.

What Happened on Unity Drive

According to investigators, officers responded to multiple 911 calls around 9:30 p.m. reporting gunfire. When they arrived, they discovered a man in his 30s lying in the street with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives quickly identified Aguilar as a suspect after interviewing witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage from nearby homes. Authorities say the shooting appears to have been targeted rather than random.

Arrest & Charges

Aguilar was taken into custody Tuesday morning without incident. He faces a capital murder charge, which means prosecutors could seek life without parole or the death penalty if convicted.

Officials have not yet released a possible motive but indicated that the suspect and victim may have known each other.

Community Reaction

Neighbors expressed shock at the violence, saying the area is typically quiet. Several residents told reporters they heard more than half a dozen gunshots before police arrived.

Some community members are now calling for increased patrols and street lighting along Unity Drive to deter future crime.

Next Steps

  • Aguilar is currently being held in the Harris County Jail.

  • A probable cause hearing is scheduled for later this week.

  • Detectives are continuing to collect evidence and speak with additional witnesses.
