The young mother was left stunned when she spotted, what looked like, a hole on the roof of her baby’s mouth.
Becky was changing her 10-month-old son, Harvey’s, diaper when she spotted a dark circle inside his mouth. She started to panic, as one would, and assumed the worst.
She then rushed him to the hospital, where the revelation of what was in her son’s mouth left her embarrassed. Stiles was shaking when she first discovered the black spot in her son’s mouth. When she tried to touch it, Harvey wouldn’t let her and screamed.
“So I made his dad rush over and see it,” she explained.
“We put a torch on it and his dad said, ‘What the hell is that?’” At this point, they decided to call emergency medical services to take a look at Harvey’s condition. As they waited on the phone with the 111 health emergency line of the NHS, Stiles’ dad asked her to just take Harvey to the emergency room immediately. “So we dropped the two oldest kids off to their grandparents and made the 30-minute drive to our closest hospital,” she said. In a state of panic, Becky had called and informed her whole family, both her side and Harvey’s father’s side, about what she thought was a worrying situation.
On arriving at the hospital, she explained about the hole in her son’s mouth at the reception. They immediately started the process of trying to refer her to a specialist. Meanwhile, a nurse decided to examine the baby more closely and used her pen torch to get a better look. “After about 30 seconds of looking, she said ‘That’s a sticker.’ Me being an idiot told her, ‘No look that’s a hole,’” she recounted. “She put her finger in his mouth and hooked it out. I laughed, was shaking and so embarrassed.”
According to The Post, the medical team at the hospital found the turn of events to be hilarious. The baby had a good laugh too. “We all carried on laughing as we made the walk of shame back to the car,” Becky said. But now she had an even bigger task at hand. To clarify the situation with her entire family whom she had informed about the situation, who were probably waiting, worried sick. “In the car, I had to swallow my pride even more AND make all the phone calls again to let everyone know Harvey didn’t in fact have a hole in his mouth,” she said. “He had taken a liking to stickers…”
